My Thomas had his first trip to Lake Ontario along with Dan and his son Ryan, Mike and his son Riley. Good trip, lots of laughs, food, a few beers and fishing. Weather was not the best and we were only able to fish one day on the boat. The first day after 30mph winds we had to turn it around. We did fish off the rock piles and caught a lot of blue gills, some bass and lots of other pan fish. Thomas lost 3 kings pulling those suckers in and ended up boating an nice brown. Ryan landed a monster King Salmon and we caught a few other browns. Hope this is the first of many for the young ones.

Jack clocks in with this Thanksgiving Striper!!

Hunting at Firedog Lodge Next Week!

Yes it is that time of year. Opening day of Deer Season. Break out the rifles fellas. This year we plan on exploring Tiadaghton State Forest in Lycoming County. We caught some good quality Brown's with some nice footballs thrown in. This trip consisted of 9 guys. Some newbies who fared pretty well I must say. The guide and outfitters had something to do with that. (eh hem). We had lots of food, booze, campfires, cigars and fun. Oh and fishing too. Shoreline fishing didn't produce much from Fair Haven, as usual but, Greg guided some of the guys up at the Oswego river and caught a good variety including a nice size fresh water drum. Go Drew!! We chartered "Trophy Nuts" with Captain Bob. Captain Bob did a fantastic job! This guy knows where the fish are. First day out was choppy with 5-6 ft swells so it was rough going yet we still pulled in a few fish. Second day was glass and they almost limited out. 3 cheers for Bob. All we needed. The setting was perfect backing up to the large pond fed from Lake Ontario. Ted decided to try his luck and expertise fishing for small mouth and every cast produced. Not long after, Jimmy and I joined in the fun. We enjoyed the purple sunset against the pond backdrop and plenty of wine and beer. The pepperoni and sharp cheese topped the list of favorites as well.
Blustery weather prohibited us from fishing the wall although Ted was willing to test the waters though briefly. We found a bait shop off the beaten path called Spanky's. I think we actually met spanky who gave us some advice on the local way to catch pike.
Of course we tried it.
Greg was up there the week before with roughly the same luck except for two fish from Timmy starting with his third cast!

Next year, bigger cabin, a few more guys, and oh yeah, pepperoni and cheese!

Delaware Fishing - Important Info

This is mandatory for fishing in Del so you mine as well register.
It might have to be done every year...

Pass this around to everyone you know that fishes in DE.

In case you are not aware, if you are 16 years and older (resident and non-resident) and fish in any Delaware waters, starting 2009 you have to apply for a FIN number.
It's free just follow the web site.

http://www.delaware-fin.com/

Andrew's First Buck!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0BAyrVSfmbQ/SUAj3hLrMiI/AAAAAAAAAEE/R97oU7UA9a4/s320/andys+buck+077.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278258199985336866" />
Larry and Kelly must be proud of their son Andrew. I hunted this morning and only saw one deer on the run. This afternoon I hunted with Ted G. and Jason. I saw 3 doe then within minutes 2 more followed by a buck. I had only one chance at the buck. I stopped him by giving a little yell, then he stopped behind some thicket. I saw enough of his body to take a shot and did so. He bucked up, then only walked away. I found him within 40-50 yards. A decent 8 Point. I had the awesome pleasure of hunting with my father Sal and my uncle Jim's guides of over 26 years. My uncle actually hunted longer with Bernie the senior guide from back into the 50's and remained friends from then on. Bernie's son Donny continued the tradition and started guiding as well for them since 1980 or so. Donny has a beautiful camp on lake Harvey. We hunted mostly from there with miles and miles of logging roads and choppings. We did venture by boat to Bernies original camp for a day and a half of hunting. Access to this camp is only available by boat or snow mobile. It took us about an hour and 40 minutes by boat to get there. We had to lift the boat over various beaver dams to continue through the narrow stream that takes you through gorgeous country of 100 foot tall evergreen trees, meadows and heaths all the while searching for whitetail and moose. Because of the harsh winter with 6 foot snow falls, their deer population was down 30% to only 60,000 for the providence of New Brunswick. Moose were actually more plentiful according to the guides. I told them I have never seen a moose in the wild and they worked so hard to show me one. Not until we were packed up and leaving for good through the miles of log roads to get to the main road did we see spot a moose. I doubted myself when I saw one and asked cousin Jim for confirmation. Then we realized there were 3!!!. A bull, cow and calf all together. Shortly afterwards, a truck pulled up wondered what we were looking at. They got out and pulled their rifle out. Never said a word to us and started looking for the moose. In canada, the native indians have no laws on hunting and can shoot anything. We think they were going to Jack these moose. Fortunately the moose left and they didn't get a shot. We left so we don't know for sure. They are an amazing majestic animals to see. Our thoughts are to change to moose hunting for the future and are currently looking into it with our guides.

Tom S. bruiser buck

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0BAyrVSfmbQ/SQsUGnxfD4I/AAAAAAAAACQ/YSrVrFSeilY/s320/CIMG1167.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263322693500866434" />
Hello again gang,
Check out my brother Tom's bruiser buck he harvested last Friday afternoon in Whitpain Twp.

8 point buck, approx weight 170 lbs. Good guy, Now part of our elite group and hopefully new contributor to this blog. Mike had helped me try and locate a doe I had hit. He was interested in having me show him around and point him in the right direction to hunt. I thought it best to set Mike up along a transition area between pine forest and hard woods. He was able to hunt for only a few hours last Saturday and proceeded to set up with his climber about 25 feet in the air! Crazy! I was set up about 150 yards from him on the edge of the woods. Within about 50 minutes he was able to rattle in a spike and a 7 point. The 7 point came right under his stand and he took aim. We ran out of light shortly after so we went in the next day with our boys and retrieved the buck. Congrats to Mike! Unfortunately, his season is over and he is very bummed. His entires season lasted less than 2 hours. See photo of our boys with the buck.

Guide services provided by "Nice Rack"

The 2008 Season Begins!!

Hey fellow hunters, are you ready for the 08 season? That's right, bow season opens this saturday for doe only. It's a little warm but a good time to get into the woods, get comfortable with your stand and equipment and see what's walking around. The woods are thick so visibility is not great. I have been scouting and seeing some nice sign around. I have a lot planned for this year including a trip to Canada for whitetail with my cousin. Hopefully a striper trip or two as well. Let's hope for a successful and safe season for everyone.

Let's hear from everyone out there.

New York Fishing Trip

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0BAyrVSfmbQ/SBYeQwzaGFI/AAAAAAAAABs/Za8JvT8At6w/s200/IMG_0015.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194372493545707602" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0BAyrVSfmbQ/SBYKzgzaGDI/AAAAAAAAABc/8wS-cv_E0UI/s200/IMG_0005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194351100313606194" />

Well folks, just finished up our trip to Fairhaven New York for brown trout. The weather was perfect. 50-70 degrees with only one day of rain that lasted about 3 hours on Saturday. Enough rain to bring in 2 nice brownies for Jason who was brave enough to weather the storm while we napped like all fair weather fisherman do. Jason also landed the 1 and only brown trout on the first day so fishing was not the best. Jason and I referred to ourselves as Team Tom, while Greg and Timmy were Team Tim. Needless to say we came out on top due to the awesome experience and expertise of Jason a.k.a J-Rock!

Timmy took his boat up to New York and on Saturday he and Greg left me on a rock pile to test the waters while Jason was in his Hobie doing his thing.

In a last desperate attempt while leaving camp for good, Greg jumped out of his truck and casted into the pond to land a nice Pike thus inspiring the rest of us to do the same. Jason hooked me up as my Pike guide, offered his fancy smancy pole and lure and taught me the technic for Pike. Within minutes I had a follow up then landed one shortly after with two more follow ups. Greg caught another one and I think Timmy did too.

Not the greatest of fishing but overall a great trip with the boys hanging by the campfire at night smoking cigars and trying our luck with bullheads and rock bass to no avail.

First Buck Taken In Archery Season

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0BAyrVSfmbQ/RwfXYkDZrXI/AAAAAAAAAA0/X6sJVuAwxpI/s200/big+buck+3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118296318524632434" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0BAyrVSfmbQ/RwfXZUDZrYI/AAAAAAAAAA8/Z8jGDrjEd8g/s200/big+buck+4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118296331409534338" />

Ok First buck of the archery season was taken Tuesday evening October 2 by Big Chris. He had been seeing this buck all year along with a 6 pointer he said was even bigger. Chris was walking out from his stand when he saw 2 doe and then this buck. A place for the American Hunter. You can come and be part of a tradition, part of a unified group of sportsman that enjoy the outdoors and the natural tradition of hunting. Please feel free to participate in discussions and topics of interest. Communicate with your fellow outdoors enthusiasts to discuss topics related to deer, rabbit, upland bird, and waterfowl hunting. Also discuss freshwater and saltwater fishing. I will post my experiences, but I need your help (since I am limited to hunting and fishing in DE, NJ, PA). We can discuss hunts, locations, rentals, product -- you name it!
